Several shops and business establishments remained closed on Tuesday in response to a call given by the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangakalin Peramaippu urging the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board.
Gandhi Market and its vicinity wore a deserted look with very little vehicular movement. Several medical shops too remained closed. Nearly 90 to 95% of shops remained closed in Tiruchi district, said V. Sridhar, district president of the peramaippu.
Sources said a vast majority of shops remained closed in Karur, Pudukottai and Perambalur districts also.
