Mumbai North West is one of the 48 parliamentary seats in the State of Maharashtra, India. The seat constitutes six Assembly segments in the Mumbai Suburban district. The seat was represented by eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani from 1977 to 1984. Mr. Jethmalani contested the 1977 polls on a Janata Party ticket and retained the seat in 1980 on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. The constituency has since been locked in a two-contest between the Congress and Shiv Sena since the 1980s. Veteran actor Sunil Dutt recorded consecutive wins from the seat from 1984 to 1991 and 1999 to 2004. The party retained the seat till 2014 before Shiv Sena nominee Gajanan Kirtikar defeated Gurudas Vasant Kamat of the Congress in the 2014 general elections.
