Lokpal is an anti-corruption body or ombudsman, responsible for looking into corruption complaints at the national level. The Lokpal movement in India was spearheaded by activist Anna Hazare, with his Jan Lokpal movement in 2011. The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act was passed by the parliament in 2013. In 2019, retired Supreme Court judge Pinaki Chandra Ghose was appointed as the first Lokpal of India.
