India reported 3,277 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and an additional 128 deaths, taking the total tally to 62,939 and 2,109 deaths on Sunday.
During this period, 1,511 patients were discharged after treatment, which takes the total recovery rate to 30.76%, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that so far a total of 16,09,037 samples have been tested.
Data released by the Ministry noted that in 10 States/Union Territories no COVID-19 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours.
State Health Departments reported a total of 66, 918 positive cases nationwide, with 43,888 active ones. The death toll stood at 2,200.

16 new Covid-19 cases have been detected in Tripura. All of them have been reported from BSF's 86th battalion campus located at Ambassa in Dhalai district.

Maharashtra records 1,943 new COVID-19 cases, 53 deaths in single day
Maharashtra reported a massive surge of 1,943 new COVID -19 cases - till now the highest single-day case surge - as the cumulative tally breached the 22,000 - mark to reach 22,171. The State Health Department said that while 1,278 cases were reported today, a backlog of 665 cases had been added to the total.
With 53 deaths today, the state recorded the highest single-day fatalities till date as the total death toll rose to 832. As many as 399 patients were discharged today taking the total number of discharged till date to 4,199.
Mumbai's case tally has now soared to 13,739 cases, while it's death toll stood at 508. 19 of the new deaths reported today were from Mumbai city, six from Pune and five from Jalgaon among other parts of the state.
Two more COVID-19 deaths in Rajasthan, State's death toll now at 108
Two deaths - one each in Jaipur and Banswara - were reported in Rajasthan today, taking the COVID-19 related death toll in the State to 108. A total of 106 COVID-19 positive cases detected in 14 districts today. The tally of positive cases in Rajasthan is now 3,814. NSG medical staff contracts COVID-19; over 745 active cases in CAPFs
A medical staff of the elite counter-terrorism force NSG has contracted the coronavirus disease even as the five central paramilitary forces saw at least 93 new cases taking the total among them to over 745.
This is the first COVID-19 case in the commando force raised for special counter-terrorism and anti-hijack duties. Officials said the personnel was posted at the NSG hospital at its garrison in Gurgaon’s Manesar and was quarantined immediately after he showed symptoms such as fever.

Telangana recorded 33 fresh cases of coronavirus on Sunday, taking the total coronavirus cases to 1,196 in the state, health officials said.
According to a media bulletin, of the 33 new cases, 26 were reported from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits and another seven cases were of migrants.

Post this, Indian Railways will start more special services on new routes, based on the available coaches after reserving 20,000 coaches for COVID-19 care centres as well as to enable operation of up to 300 trains everyday as “Shramik Special” for stranded migrants.

Gujarat records 398 new cases
Gujarat records 398 cases and 21 deaths. Total cases so far are 8195 and deaths 493. Today, 454 patients were discharged as per the new guidelines about discharge of patients that require no retesting of asymptomatic patients or patients with mild symptoms after 10 days treatment.
Ahmedabad added 278 cases and 18 deaths, increasing its tally of cases to 5818 & fatality to 381.
25 fresh cases in J&K, COVID-19 tally climbs to 861
Twenty-five more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, bringing the number of cases to 861 in the union territory, officials said.
The fresh cases include a nurse and three contacts of a doctor who had earlier tested positive for novel coronavirus, the officials said.

Sixty-one more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Punjab on Sunday, taking the number of confirmed cases in the state to 1,823, officials said here.

No COVID-19 case reported in 10 states, UTs in last 24 hours: Vardhan
No COVID-19 case has been reported in 10 states and Union territories in the last 24 hours and the recovery rate has increased to over 30 per cent, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday, asserting that India was moving fast on the path of success in the fight against the pandemic.
According to health ministry data, 1,511 COVID-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours -- the highest number of recoveries recorded in one day.
Lockdown going to end soon: Delhi CM Kejriwal urges migrants not to leave city
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to migrant workers not to leave the city, saying the situation will revive once the lockdown is lifted and they will find work.
He also urged the workers trying to leave the national capital to stay wherever they were, assuring them that his government was arranging trains for their return.
“This lockdown is going to end soon, and everything will be back on track. You will get employed again because everything will start running again. Please do not leave Delhi,” Mr. Kejriwal said.

All shops to be shut from Monday in 69 Pune containment zones
All shops, including ones dealing in essential items, have been told to down shutters from Monday in 69 containment zones in Pune municipal corporation limits as people were not observing social distancing and other lockdown norms in place for the novel coronavirus outbreak, said civic chief Shekhar Gaikwad.
He said the decision to shut all shops was taken after a review meeting.
Pune is among the worst hit urban areas in the country with the district having 2,732 cases as on Saturday.
Of these, 2,380 are in Pune Municipal Corporation limits.
Delhi govt issues SOP for hospitals on reporting COVID-19 deaths
Facing criticism for “under reporting” COVID-19 deaths, the Delhi government on Sunday issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for hospitals and other health facilities in the city on reporting fatalities due to coronavirus.
Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev issued an order along with the SOP under which all COVID-19 hospitals and other facilities will e-mail a ‘death report’ to the government by 5 pm everyday.
Dharavi reported 26 new cases on Sunday, bringing its tally to 859. It also reported two more deaths, bringing the tally to 29.

Second repatriation flight from U.K. takes off for Bengaluru with 323 Indians
Air India’s second repatriation flight to bring back Indians stranded in the UK due to the coronavirus lockdown took off from the Heathrow Airport here for Bengaluru on Sunday with 323 passengers.
Besides the 323 students, tourists and other Indian passport holders, the flight is flying back the body of a 37-year-old Indian-origin man who committed suicide at his home in south-east England.

Active COVID-19 cases rise to 1,884 in U.P.: Official
The number of active cases of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh rose to 1,884 on Sunday, while 1,504 patients have been discharged so far, a senior official said.
Principal Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said 84 more people have tested positive for the disease.
On Saturday, 1,365 samples were tested in 273 pools, he told reporters.
The official said the Medical Education Department, on the directives of the chief minister, has devised a ‘mentor institute system’ which doctors can use to seek guidance for treating COVID-19 patients.
“If doctors at the Medical College Meerut face any difficulty, they can speak to experts at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow,” he said.

21 Indians from Uzbekistan brought to Delhi
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said 21 Indians from Uzbekistan have arrived in Delhi and the flight will be carrying back Uzbek nationals and Indian medicine assistance to Tashkent.
The Indians have been brought back under the government’s Vande Bharat Mission.
Railway Minister Goyal urges States to allow special trains to ferry migrants
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has appealed to all states to permit the operation of migrant special trains so that the stranded can reach home in the next three to four days.
The appeal comes a day after Home Minister Amit Shah wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to allow such trains to run.
“As per the directions of Hon’ble PM @NarendraModi ji, Railways is fully geared up to run 300 Shramik Special trains everyday at short notice since the last six days.
“I appeal to all the states to give permission to evacuate and bring back their stranded migrants so that we can get all of them back to their homes in the next 3-4 days itself,” Goyal tweeted on Sunday.

Sports Minister Rijiju says premier sports centres will be opened after lockdown
Plans are in place to start outdoor training in premier centres in India later this month and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government had to tread a careful path to ensure that athletes remained free from COVID-19.
Mr. Rijiju had already said that his ministry was devising a plan for a phased resumption of national camps for Olympic-bound athletes, starting with the athletes currently based at NIS Patiala and SAI Centre in Bengaluru by the end of this month.

Delhi Police receives 781 calls in 24 hrs seeking help
The Delhi Police relieved 781 calls on its helpline number within a period of 24 hours till Sunday afternoon and 394 of these were regarding movement passes, officials said here. A total of 41,788 calls have been received by the city police so far on its 24x7 helpline number 011-23469526 for assistance in resolving issues being faced by the people due to the lockdown, they said.
7,740 dedicated COVID-19 health facilities in 483 districts identified: Health Ministry
A total of 7,740 dedicated COVID-19 facilities in 483 districts have been identified, the Union health ministry said on Sunday, asserting that adequate health infrastructure is in place to fight the pandemic.
The public health facilities dedicated to COVID-19 management are categorised into three categories -- Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH), Dedicated COVID Health Centre (DCHC) and Dedicated COVID Care Centre (DCCC).

Protests against virus restrictions in Germany
Police in Germany say dozens of people were detained at protests against the pandemic restrictions after some rallies turned violent on Saturday.
Berlin police said 86 people were detained after bottles were thrown at officers during a demonstration on Alexanderplatz, a large central square in former East Berlin. One officer was injured, and another was injured in a separate incident in front of the Reichstag building where 45 people were detained.
In the western city of Dortmund, police said a man attacked a TV crew during a protest — the third such attack in Germany in the past two weeks. The 23-year-old assailant was arrested.
Police in nearby Cologne expressed outrage that some protesters in the city urged shoppers to remove their masks when entering stores.

Cabinet secretary seeks cooperation of states in running trains for transportation of stranded migrants
Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Sunday sought cooperation of the state governments in running special trains for transportation of stranded migrant workers from different parts of the country to various destinations and said as many as 350 such trains carrying 3.5 lakh labourers have been run so far.
The cabinet secretary’s appeal came a day after the West Bengal government and the Centre engaged in a war of words over running the ‘Shramik Special’ trains to the State.

The South Eastern Railway has asked its loco pilots and other staff to keep a sharp vigil for migrant labourers walking along the railway tracks after several such groups were located at different places within its zone, an official said.
Groups of migrant labourers were spotted walking on the railway track near a level crossing between Soro and Markona of Odisha and between Balasore and Haldipada, walking towards Kharagpur on Sunday morning, SER spokesman Sanjay Ghosh said.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has formed a six-member committee to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for phased resumption of training across sporting disciplines at all the centres once the coronavirus-forced national lockdown is lifted.
The six-member panel will be headed by SAI secretary Rohit Bharadwaj and will have CEO Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Rajesh Rajagopalan, Executive Director (Operations) SS Roy, SS Sarla, Col BK Nayak and Assistant Director TOPS Sachin K as members.

IRDAI again extends grace period for life insurance policies
IRDAI has further extended the grace period for renewal of life insurance policies whose premium was due in March till May 31 in wake of the extension of lockdown to fight spread of coronavirus.
On March 23 and April 4, Irdai had announced additional grace period of 30 days for policies where premium fell due in the months of March and April.
This was done to provide “relief” to life insurance policyholders in wake of the unprecedented lockdown situation as a result of global pandemic COVID-19, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) had said.

New COVID-19 fatalities were reported from Aurangabad and Akola districts in Maharashtra on May 10 as the number of positive cases continued to surge in these districts as well as other parts of the State, including Pune and Nagpur.

Over 300 labourers leave Bengal for Bihar in a bus
More than 300 migrant labourers of Bihar, stranded in Bengal since the imposition of the lockdown, left for their homes in a bus from Alipurduar district on Sunday, an official said.
The district administration, in coordination with various government departments, made adequate arrangements to send home the labourers, he said.
Measures were also being taken to transport another 368 labourers, stuck in Kalimpong, to different districts within the State.

Five Air India pilots test positive for COVID-19
Five Air India pilots and two staffers of the Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) have tested positive for COVID-19, airline sources said on Sunday.
While an official statement from Air India was awaited, sources said that all the five were asymptomatic and had been home quarantined. Officials said that the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) would issue a statement shortly.
Thirty-three new COVID-19 positive cases and one death - in Jaipur - reported in Rajasthan today, taking the tally of patients to 3,741 and death toll to 107. Of the total number of patients, 2,176 have recovered and 1,917 of them have been discharged from hospitals.

NDMA issues guidelines for restart of manufacturing units after lockdown period
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a series of guidelines for restarting manufacturing industries after the lockdown period. Certain economic activities have already been allowed on gradual lifting of restrictions in some zones.
Instructions have been issued on safekeeping of hazardous and flammable materials. Guidelines also pertain to chemical disasters, management of chemical (terrorism) disasters, and strengthening of safety and security for transportation of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) tankers.
350 Shramik Special trains run so far, around 3.6 lakh migrants ferried: Railways
The Indian Railways has operated 350 Shramik Special trains since May 1 and ferried home more than 3.6 lakh migrants stranded in various parts of the country amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, officials said.
While 263 trains have already reached their destinations, 87 are still on the run. Forty-six more trains are in the pipeline, it said.
Every Shramik Special train has 24 coaches, each with a capacity of 72 seats.
However, only 54 people are allowed in a coach to maintain social distancing norms and the middle berth is not allotted to any passenger.

India sends medical assistance to five friendly nations
India has sent medical assistance to the Maldives, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros and Seychelles by a naval ship following separate requests from these countries for help in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
The Ministry of External Affairs said Indian naval ship Kesari is carrying medical teams, essential medicines and food items to the five countries in line with India’s “time-tested” role as the first responder to any crisis in the region.
“Responding to their requests for assistance in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, India has sent Indian Naval Ship Kesari to Maldives, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros and Seychelles, carrying on board two medical assistance teams, consignments of Covid related essential medicines and essential food items,” the MEA said in a statement.

Stranded persons return in buses to Manipur from different cities
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren said on May 10 that Manipuri students, employees of government and private companies, ailing persons and others have started arriving in Manipur by bus from several cities.
Since it is compulsory to keep them in community quarantine for at least 14 days, all the 60 Assembly segments have opened at least one quarantine centre. The MLAs concerned are acting as chairmen of the committees with district Superintendents of Police, Collectors and some officials acting as members. Special Secretary (Home) Gyan Prakash has issued an order in this regard.
53 new cases, another death in Karnataka
A total of 53 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Karnataka today. With this the total number of cases in Karnataka have reached 847.
Another death due to COVID 19 was also reported in Karnataka. With this, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 stands at 31 in the State. The media bulletin issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare states that a 56-year-old female resident of Bengaluru Urban was admitted to a private hospital on May 4 and subsequently got admitted to another private Hospital on May 6 with complaint of SARI. The patient died on May 7 and her report was confirmed positive on May 9.

Most cases in Delhi are mild or asymptomatic: Kejriwal
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in a press conference said that most cases in Delhi are mild or asymptomatic. "These cases can be treated at home and our teams are counselling patients and their caregivers on how to deal with such cases at home," he said. "Data shows us that most deaths are of those above 50 years of age. I appeal to the elderly to not step out and wash hands regularly."
Those who do not have a separate room at home to isolate, are being treated at COVID-19 care centres, Mr. Kejriwal said.
"Ambulances, I have been told, are a problem and the government has roped in private ambulances as well and has requisitioned then for government duty. There should not be any shortage now.
"It is our duty to deal with those on the frontline of dealing with COVID-19. Any COVID warrior will be eligible for stay at five star hotels.
"This is not the time to do politics. The opposition has criticised some of our policies. We need to work together to defeat the virus.
"Migrant workers are still trying to reach home by walking. I am pained by their plight. It feels like the entire system has failed them. All those who want to go home we will provide the facility of providing transportation by trains. But I appeal to them not to go home as soon, the lockdown will end and employment will be back. I appeal to them not to walk home," he said.

Govt mulls credit guarantee scheme for loans for payment of wages by MSMEs
As part of a stimulus package for the coronavirus-hit economy, the government is working on a credit guarantee scheme to enable banks to provide additional 10%-15% working capital to MSMEs for payment of wages, sources said.
Currently, banks are offering an extra line of credit of 10 per cent based on working capital limits, which the government intends to increase further.
Since units are closed due to lockdown and there has been no operation for the past two months, most micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) do not have money for paying wages and financial assistance for them is under consideration of the government, the sources said.
One of the proposals under consideration is to provide 10%-15% additional line of credit by banks over the working capital limit of the MSME sector, which is the largest employer in the country after agriculture.

Two more cases in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh reported two fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the total virus count in the state to 55, officials said on Sunday.
Two people quarantined at Swarghat in Bilaspur district along the HP-Punjab border have tested positive, Bilaspur deputy commissioner Rajeswar Goel said.
The two are taxi drivers and had recently ferried two families from Gujarat’s Ahmedabad and Haryana’s Gurgaon to their native places in Mandi and Kangra districts respectively.

First batch of 88 nurses from India arrive in UAE
The first batch of 88 nurses from India arrived in the UAE to help the country’s stretched healthcare professionals amid a surge in the number of COVID-19 infections in the Gulf nation that has crossed 17,000, according to media reports.
The nurses, who are from Aster DM Healthcare hospitals in the states of Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra, will be put under quarantine for 14 days after which they will be assigned to various field hospitals as per requirement, the Khaleej Times reported.

Five killed as truck carrying migrant workers overturns in Madhya Pradesh
Five migrant workers were killed and 13 persons injured after their truck overturned on a highway in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh on the night of May 9, said district officials.
“Perched atop a heap of mangoes laden on the Agra-bound truck coming from Hyderabad, 15 migrant workers were headed towards Jhansi and Etah districts of Uttar Pradesh,” said Rahul Wasnik, Assistant Director, Narsinghpur administration.
Delhi recorded 381 new COVID-19 cases on May 9 taking the total number of cases to 6923.
Five deaths were recorded taking the total up to 73.
The total number of active cases stand at 4781 (2069 recovered so far) according to a Health Bulletin by the Delhi Government.
Indian naval ship arrives in Kochi with evacuees from the Maldives
A naval ship carrying nearly 700 Indians evacuated from the Maldives arrived in Kochi a little after 9 a. m. on May 10. This is the first batch of Indians returning by sea after an international lockdown on all modes of transport took effect about two months ago against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic . According to the State government’s update, 29 new cases were reported from Ganjam district followed by Balasore and Angul with 15 and 13 cases. Mayurbhanj added a lone positive case to the tally.
3 members of White House virus task force in quarantine
Three members of the White House coronavirus task force, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, placed themselves in quarantine after contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 .
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a leading member of the task force, has become nationally known for his simple and direct explanations to the public about the coronavirus and COVID-19, the disease it causes. Also quarantining are Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, Stephen Hahn.
1st batch of 326 Indians stranded in U.K. arrives in Mumbai
The first batch of 326 Indian nationals stranded in the U.K. due to the coronavirus -linked global travel restrictions arrived in Mumbai from London early on Sunday morning.
The special evacuation flight AI 130, a Boeing 777 plane which departed from London on Saturday, landed at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at around 1.30 AM with 326 Indians, according to a source.
16 more positive cases in Bihar took the total number in the state to 611. The cases were reported from Begusarai, Rohtas and Khagaria districts.

Odisha registered a sharp rise in COVID-19 positive cases with 58 new cases detected on Sunday. The State’s total count has now touched 352.
While 29 new cases were reported from Ganjam district, 13 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Angul district.
Also, one person died in Ganjam district taking the total death toll to three, said State Health and Family Welfare Department on Sunday.
Earlier two COVID-19 deaths were reported in Khordha district.
Coronavirus cases worldwide surpass 4 million
The number of novel coronavirus cases recorded worldwide surpassed four million on Saturday, according to an AFP tally based on official sources, as of 2145 GMT.
There are now at least 4,001,437 cases of coronavirus around the world, with 277,127 deaths.
