: Former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss was detained by the Delhi Police on Thursday when he tried to march towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence to voice support for the ongoing Jallikattu protests in his home State of Tamil Nadu.

A senior police officer said Mr. Ramadoss, who is a member of the Parliament from the Dharmapuri constituency, had come with some of his from party colleagues and was marching towards 7, Lok Kalyan Marg around 12:30 p.m. when he was stopped by the policemen present there.

“He said he wanted to meet the Prime Minister but since he did not have an appointment, we said he would not be allowed,. At this, he threatened to hold a sit-in and we had to detain them,” the officer added.

Protesters let off

They were then taken to the Tughlaq Road police station from where they were let off after nearly an hour.

“I am ready to resign from my post of MP if it helps in holding Jallikattu,” the PMK leader said as he made a bid to meet the Prime Minister to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, a silent protest in support of Jallikattu was held at the Tamil Nadu Bhawan in Chanakyapuri on Thursday.

A similar protest was held at Jantar Mantar, where Tamil actor Vishal went to show his support. He was, however, not allowed to enter by the youth present there.
