Jayalalithaa was an actor-turned politician who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for six terms. She held the post of general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) from 1989 till her death on December 5, 2016. She was one of the country’s most articulate and determined political personalities, and is remembered for her numerous public welfare schemes under the ‘Brand Amma’.
