The outlawed insurgent group, the United National Liberation Front, has formally claimed responsibility for gunning down Dhanachandra Heisnam of Thanga Heisnam Mayai Leikai in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Sunday.

A statement said that Dhanachandra along with his four relatives had allegedly gang-raped a girl of the same village on February 13, 2018. They left the unconscious girl believing that she was dead.

Meanwhile, womenfolk of the village staged a protest on Monday against the killing of Dhanachandra and said that the body would not be claimed until the killers were nabbed.
