Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday hailed the >Supreme Court’s quashing of President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh and the restoration of the Congress government as “historic.” Welcoming the verdict, she said it would “prove to be a landmark.”

In an attack on the Narendra Modi government, Ms. Mayawati said it was high-time the Centre take lessons from the verdict of the apex court and work as per the values enshrined in the Constitution. She said the NDA government had tried a similar ploy in Uttarakhand by ousting an elected government and these episodes pointed to the fact that the Modi government was not working according to the values of the Constitution.

“The Centre government should take lessons from the verdict of the apex court and try to walk the path as per the correct intentions of the Constitution The sooner they take lessons from it, the better it is for national interest,” the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said here.

In a blow to the NDA government, a Constitution Bench of the SC unanimously quashed all decisions of Arunachal Governor J.P. Rajkhowa that had led to the President’s rule in the northeastern State.
