Tamil Nadu Drugs Control Department and Chemists and Druggists Association in Coimbatore together sourced medicines and personal hygiene materials worth ₹ 5 lakh for relief camps in flood-hit Kerala on Tuesday. The consignment of medicines was handed over to Drugs Control Department in Kerala.
S. Gurubharathi, Assistant Director of Drugs Control, Coimbatore zone, said that medicines for relief camps and medical camps were collected with the cooperation of pharmacies in Coimbatore district.
“An appeal was made to the pharmacists through the association to render support to Kerala in relief works. The consignment was sent to District Drug Warehouse in Palakkad through Coimbatore district administration,” said Mr. Gurubharathi.
The consignment included paracetamol tablet and syrup, anti-allergy drugs, oral rehydration solution, chlorine tablet, bleaching powder, cotton, gauze, IV fluids, first aid kits, antiseptic lotions, cold balms, adult and baby diaper and napkins among others.
Drugs Control Department and Chemists and Druggists Association have already sent similar consignment of drugs and personal hygiene materials from Erode (worth ₹ 2 lakh) and Tirupur (worth ₹ 1 lakh). From the Nilgiris, they sourced and donated ₹ 2 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
