Acclaimed author Perumal Murugan has penned numerous novels, short stories, poems, and non-fiction works in Tamil. He has been recognised with awards like ILF Samanvay Bhasha Samman. His books, including One Part Woman, Poonachi, and Pyre have received international acclaim and nominations for prestigious prizes. He won the JCB Prize for Literature for his book Fire Bird in 2023.

Azhagiya Periyavan, the pseudonym for C. Aravindan, served as a middle school science teacher while excelling in various literary fields, including poetry, short stories, novels, essays, songs, screenplays, and movie dialogues. He is known for his novel Thagappan Kodi in 2001. Azhagiya Periyavan, recognised with prestigious awards like the Kalaignar Porkizhi Award and the Tamil Development Department Award, has made significant contributions to Tamil literature and the film industry, showcasing his versatility and socio-political activism.
