Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant on Monday morning announced on Twitter that he would resign from the Cabinet.
“I have sent my resignation to the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Mr. Sawant said at a press meet in New Delhi.
“The BJP’s denial that there was 50-50 rotational chief ministership agreement between itself and the Shiv Sena sought to make a liar out of Shri. Uddhav Thackeray, which is not acceptable. I was sent to the Union Cabinet by the party, once the trust is not there, there was no point in continuing," Mr. Sawant said.
''When I have resigned, you can understand what it means, Mr. Sawant said when asked if the Sena has quit the NDA.
On Sunday night, the BJP expressed its inability to form a government in Maharashtra and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari invited the Sena to attempt to form a government. The Sena is expecting support from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress. The NCP has made it clear that Mr. Sawant’s resignation and the breaking of the Sena and BJP ties at the Centre too is a precursor to any alliance.
