West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday blamed Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the Left parties for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in Tripura.
Speaking to the media at the State secretariat, Ms. Banerjee said she had “suggested” to the Congress President about the significance of forming an alliance in Tripura.
“I requested Congress and Rahul Gandhi that we are new in Tripura and we — Congress, TMC and other hill parties — should contest together. But that was not done,” Ms Banerjee said hours after the BJP’s stunning victory.
The Trinamool chief also targeted the CPI(M) leadership in the State, arguing that the ruling party had “surrendered” to the BJP. “But their vote share is not bad. There is only a 5% difference of votes between CPI(M) and BJP. Tripura is the outcome of CPI(M)’s surrender and Congress’ failure,” she said.
