Farmers oppose new tunnel on Pabbar river

The 111-MW Sawra-Kuddu hydroelectric project being constructed on the Pabbar river in anterior Shimla district is facing the ire of farmers for constructing an additional edit tunnel, which might disturb the ecological equilibrium in the area.

The farmers have demanded an immediate ban on its construction and completion of the project on the old lines. The project being executed by the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation has been delayed by four years.

The State Kissan Sabha leader Sanjay Chauhan blamed mismanagement for the delay. Now to achieve the deadline, the company was resorting to short cuts, he said.
