Franco Mulakkal, Bishop, Jalandhar diocese of the Roman Catholic Church, who was arrested on charge of raping a nun filed a bail petition in the Kerala High Court on Monday, September 24, 2018.
His bail plea was earlier dismissed by a Magistrate Court in Pala.
In his bail petition , he said that the allegations levelled by the nun were “wholly concocted and cooked up only to wreak vengeance” for the action taken against the nun.
The bail petition said that he was arrested while his anticipatory bail petition was pending before the High Court. Therefore, his arrest was improper.
The petition also pointed out that he was interrogated for eight hours. During the interrogation he had disclosed everything he knew and handed over the material in his possession to the police. Therefore, there was no need for keeping him in the custody of police.
He also alleged that the police were trying to create false scientific evidence. The clothes worn by him while in police custody had been seized for creating false evidence, he claimed.
