Leaders of Save Our Sisters Action Committee, which led a street protest and relay hunger strike in Kochi demanding the arrest of Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar, have said that a women’s convention would be held here on October 2 as a step to take forward the struggle by the Catholic nuns, who were part of the 14-day protest in Kochi.

Felix Pulloodan, a member of the Joint Christian Council, which is part of the SOS Action Committee, said that the women’s convention is part of a decision by the Action Committee to protest against the Catholic Church authorities in Mananthavady, who had initiated action against Sister Lucy, a Catholic nun, who had participated in the Kochi protest.

The Action Committee plans to spread the protest action to Mananthavady, he added.

The Action Committee, which met here on Sunday also decided to form a legal cell to help the nuns, who had participated in the protest.
