A CBI team led by two women officers on Wednesday arrived in Mumbai to begin the probe in Sheena Bora murder case.
On Tuesday, the CBI registered an FIR naming Indrani Mukherjea, her ex-husband Sanjiv Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai, presently in judicial custody on charges of allegedly murdering Mukherjea's 24 year-old daughter Sheena and dumping her body in Raigad district in 2012 to conceal the crime.
Sources said the CBI team will meet the investigating officer Dinesh Kadam of Khar police station where the case was registered and take charge of all the evidence gathered far by the Mumbai police.
They are also likely to question Peter Mukherjea, former INX Media CEO and Indrani's husband.
The Mumbai police had exhumed the skeletal remains of Sheena Bora from Ghotavade village in Pen, Raigad district earlier this month. DNA tests had confirmed that they belonged to Sheena Bora.
It is Mumbai Police's contention that Sheena was strangled in a moving car by the three accused in April 2012 before packing her body in a suitcase and dumping it in a deserted stretch in Raigad district. Burnt remains of the body were discovered by the Raigad police but no accidental death report was lodged by the police despite recovering a dead body in suspicious circumstances.
Maharashtra government had requested the CBI to take over the case to ensure impartial probe.
