Madhubani is one of the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar. Bordered by Supaul, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga andNepal to the North, Madhubani has six Assembly seats – Harlakhi, Benipatti, Bisfi, Madhubani, Keoti, Jale. Of the population of 44.87 lakhs, 13.1% belong to Scheduled Castes (SC) and 0.1% to Scheduled Tribes (ST). The district has a sex ratio of 926 and literacy of 58.62%. The main attraction of Madhubani is the Somnath Mahadev where the annual Sabha of the Maithali Brahmins are held. Established in 1957, Madhubani is a Communist stronghold which now votes for Bharatiya Janata Party. The incumbent MP is BJP’s Ashok Kumar Yadav.
