Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman was banned for 12 weeks on Wednesday for using cannabis while playing for Somerset in an English county championship match last month.
The England and Wales Cricket Board said Rehman accepted the ban after testing positive for the prohibited substance on August 8.
“I apologise to my family, the PCB, the ECB, Somerset County Cricket club, my teammates and my fans,” Rehman said in an ECB statement.
“It was an error of judgment on my part that will cost me dearly. I will do my best to stay fit and focused during my suspension and god-willing will be available for selection for the India series should the PCB see it fit for me to be selected.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board withdrew Rehman from the Sialkot Stallions in next week’s Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa.
