The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), at a press conference on Saturday, launched the Take Solutions Ashok Kumbhat Memorial Twenty20 tournament to be held here from May 31 to June 12.

All the 12 TNCA first division sides will take part in a competition that is sponsored by Take Solutions, a technology solutions company.

Speaking on the occasion, TNCA secretary K.S. Viswanathan said the competition “would provide a good platform for the Tamil Nadu players”.

H.R. Srinivasan, vice-chairman and managing director, Take Solutions, said: “Twenty20 is an exciting format. The competition will provide an opportunity for cricketers from the State to showcase their talent. This will also be a feeder tournament for the TNPL. We are very pleased to be associated with the TNCA.”

The tournament is named after the late Ashok Kumbhat, who served as the treasurer and then secretary of the TNCA. His brother Shanti Kumbhat said, “it has been a great gesture by the TNCA and its president N. Srinivasan to name the tournament after my late elder brother.” U. Prabhakar Rao, vice-president, TNCA, presented a memento to Shanti Kumbhat.

The 12 teams of the first-division will be divided into two groups of six sides each.

The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the criss-cross semifinals.

The last four duels and the final will be held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
