The Cricket Kutcheri has been a tradition in the Carnatic music circles for a while now. It is that time of the year when musicians come together for a day after a hectic December schedule to cool off and relax. What better way to achieve this than play the sport everyone loves — cricket. The Musicians’ Cricket Match is usually played in January and the YACM (Youth Association for Classical Music) has been instrumental in organising it each year. This year, Carnatica and YACM have jointly organised a floodlit match at the Gopalapuram Cricket Grounds on 9 February to be played at 6 p.m.

Artistes will don customised team t-shirts and caps for each of the four teams. Dinner will be sponsored by Sri Krishna Sweets . Medals and certificates for all the players, and a rolling trophy for the winning team will be distributed at the close of the match. Inspector General of Police A. Natarajan, a cricket enthusiast, will inaugurate the 2011 cricket match.

The four teams will be captained by T.M. Krishna, P. Unnikrishnan, Chitravina N. Ravikiran and Poongulam Subramaniam. The format will be as follows: Two 14 over group matches between the four teams and the two winners will play the 16 over finals.

Man of the Match awards for each match and a Man of the Series award will be handed out. Additional awards will be Best Bowler, Best Batsman, Best Fielder and Best All Rounder. These will be selected by the spectators. Entrance is free for all.
