Tamil Nadu has emerged a top State in terms of solar capacity, with the commissioning of 946 MW of solar projects in July-September (third quarter) this year, according to report by Mercom Capital Group.

Tamil Nadu is followed by Rajasthan and Karnataka, the report said.

According to Mercom, the total installed power capacity in Tamil Nadu stood at 32.6 GW by the end of Q3 2019.

Thermal power had an installed capacity of 14.8 GW in the State, and renewables had an installed capacity of 16.3 GW, representing 50.1% of the total installed capacity, it said.

The total wind power installed capacity stood at 9.2 GW, followed by solar with 3.9 GW, hydropower with 2.2 GW and nuclear with 1.5 GW. Small hydro and other renewables had an installed capacity of 1.1 GW in the state, Mercom said.

Solar installations in India in Q3 2019 were at a total of 2,170 MW, a 44% increase compared to 1,510 MW installed in Q2 2019, the report said.
