The police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old youth of Kilakarai on the charge of posting a hate message on Facebook against the RSS.

I. Mohamed Aslam, an ITI dropout, was arrested on a complaint from P. Munithurai, 27, who runs an omni-van service for school students at Kilakarai, under Sections 295(A) of the Indian Penal Code (malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (sending offensive messages), Super intendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan said.

He was produced before a magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody.

He was lodged in the juvenile home at Melur near Madurai, Mr. Mylvahanan said.

Legal opinion

Before arresting him, the police obtained legal opinion whether his message attracted Section 295(A) of the IPC, he said.

Aslam said in the message that the activities of the RSS were on the rise in the district, and its volunteers attempted to convert Muslim women.

He also warned Muslim women against using the van owned by Munithurai.

Enquiries revealed that Munithurai was not associated with the RSS or any other Hindu outfit.
