The annual music fest is set to begin soon. The stage is ready for the 167th aradhana celebrations of saint composer Sri Tyagaraja which commences on January 17 at the saint's samadhi on the banks of River Cauvery at Tiruvaiyaru.

A big pandal has been put up before the samadhi for the festival. C. Rangarajan, Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council will inaugurate the festival on January 17 evening in the presence of G.K.Vasan, Union Shipping Minister.

After the inauguration musicians will pay homage to the saint by rendering songs continuously from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day till January 21. The aradhana will be conducted on January 21, Pushya Bagula Panchami day, when hundreds of musicians will sing his pancharathna kritis in chorus.

Born on 1767 at Tiruvarur, Tyagaraja moved to Tiruvaiyaru and settled on Thirumanjana Veedhi. He rendered hundreds of Kritis in praise of Lord Rama till he attained samadhi.

It is believed that Saint Tyagaraja was the incarnation of sage Valmiki. He attained samadhi on Pushya Bagula Panchami day in 1847.
