An ambush occurred on new year's eve at Kwatha Khunnou near the international border. Some personnel of 24 Assam Rifles escaped unhurt.

The insurgents had exploded two bombs using remote control devices in quick succession and opened fire. There were retaliations from the troopers shortly. Later, the insurgents escaped towards their camps at no man's land.

Meanwhile, combined forces have arrested two insurgents in Thoubal district and recovered a China made pistol along with four rounds of ammunition.

Search operations are now intensified against the insurgents.
