Taxi driver arrested for rape in Goa

A 48-year-old taxi driver was arrested by Vasco police for the rape of a 20-year-old girl near Dabolim International Airport in South Goa.

Inspector in-charge, Nolasco Raposo, said that the victim was on a walk in the late hours of Thursday, when Bhat, the taxi driver stopped near her and offered a lift.

"The victim claims that she was forcefully pulled into the car, taken to a deserted area and raped when she refused the lift," Mr. Raposo said.

A First Information Report was registered by police on Thursday night under sections 365 (kidnapping), 376 (rape) and the accused was arrested on Friday morning, after a search operation.

A local court in Vasco remanded the accused to seven days in police custody, police said.
