The South-West monsoon system arrived in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday as many parts of the State experienced the first rainfall of this season. The State Meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in next two days.
In a press communiqué issued by the Meteorological Centre, Director of Himachal region Manmohan Singh said the South-West monsoon became active in most parts of the State and also Uttarakhand, entire Jammu and Kashmir and some parts of Punjab and East Rajasthan.
He said that the arrival of monsoon is normal this year and has reached here in the last week of June. Last year the hill State was hit by South-West monsoon on June 18. It had even hit Himachal in the first and second weeks of June way back in 1970s. But in the years 1982 and 1991 it had arrived in the third week of July.
The Met Office has warned residents and tourists not to venture out in the areas prone to landslides. There are also chances of uprooting of trees and other vegetations in some vulnerable areas, he said.
