Home Minister asks them to rise above politics to solve water shortage

The 29th Northern Zonal Council meeting here on Friday saw member States deliberating on issues such as drug addiction, water sharing, rehabilitation of dam oustees and hurdles post the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who presided over the meeting, said that decisions taken by consensus would strengthen the federal structure of the country.

Mr. Shah urged the CMs of States to ensure regular monitoring for investigation and prosecution of cases related to narcotics, POCSO Act and murders.

He also said shortage of water has become a critical issue in almost all States and to resolve it, they have to rise above politics.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, Punjab Governor V.P. Singh Badnore, CMs of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal — Capt. Amarinder Singh, Manohar Lal Khattar, Ashok Gehlot and Jai Ram Thakur respectively, besides Lt. Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal also attended the meeting.
