Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia has written to educational institutions in the Capital asking them to run a “Say no to Crackers” drive.

Keeping up the ‘go green’ initiative, Mr. Sisodia on Thursday wrote to 2,000 education institutions, including schools and colleges, asking them to encourage students to not burst crackers.

The letter said: “In order to discourage use of firecrackers on Diwali for controlling air and noise pollution, the Delhi government is conducting a campaign along with support of all stakeholders and Eco Clubs. Your institutions can play a pivotal role in promoting the campaign.”

“I am sure that the active participation of schools in making the anti-fire cracker campaign successful will go a long way in reducing the pollution levels of the city,” said Mr. Sisodia.

The Delhi government has suggested that institutions organise street plays, seminars, workshops and discussions to create awareness about the no-cracker campaign.

A number of private schools in the Capital have already been encouraging children to not burst crackers, with some of them organising e-Diwali events depicting fireworks on a screen.
