A middle-aged devotee of arrested godman Sarathi Baba died under “mysterious” circumstances at Singhamapur village under Jagatpur police station on the outskirts of the city here on Wednesday morning.

The police said one Pramod Mohanty (50) died on Wednesday morning and his last rites were performed in the village in the afternoon.

“Since there was no police report in this connection, no post-mortem was done,” informed the Jagatpur police inspector Ranjit Prusty.

It may be mentioned here that the Crime Branch police investigating into the Sarathi Baba case had retrieved a car of the godman from Mohanty’s residential campus on Sunday and he was subsequently questioned by the ipolice.

It is believed that the car, registered under the name of another Sarathi devotee, was used to shift the valuables and gold from the godman’s ashram in Kendrapara district on the night before Crime Branch police raided the ashram on August 7.
