Repoll in 168 W. Tripura booths

The Election Commission has ordered a repoll in 168 booths in the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, rejecting the demand of the major Opposition parties for fresh election in the entire constituency.

Repoll in polling stations spread over 26 of the 30 Assembly segments of the constituency will take place on May 12.

The announcement ended a month-long suspense over the fate of the April 11 election in the constituency marred by allegations of massive rigging, booth capturing and irregularities. The Opposition — Congress and CPI(M) — had accused the BJP of reducing the election into a farce and demanded a repoll in the whole constituency.

The constituency has about 1,700 polling stations.
