MLA booked for assaulting farmers

The Maharashtra police on Thursday booked Congress legislator Abdul Sattar Abdul Nabi, along with 32 others, for allegedly assaulting, threatening and abusing some farmers in Aurangabad. A video of the incident has gone viral on the social media.

Mr. Sattar Abdul Nabi, a Minister in the erstwhile Congress-NCP government, is a two-time MLA representing Sillod constituency in Aurangabad.

The incident comes in the backdrop of the farmer’s agitation that rocked Maharashtra and the massive farm loan waiver announced by the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government in its wake.

The video that was secretly filmed on June 12 shows the MLA using profane language and threatening some farmers to get off the land that Mr. Nabi claimed was his. As the victims stand their ground, the legislator appears to use force to dislodge them, while repeatedly uttering a string of expletives.
