A militant has reportedly died and two were trapped in an on-going encounter with security forces in the Sopore area of north Kashmir on Friday.
Official sources said the Special Operations Group of the state police with troops from CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles 22 and 27 battalions launched a cordon-and-search operation at Cherhaar heights on the Sopore-Bandipore Road after receiving information about the presence of three militants. One militant was killed in the beginning of the operation which was continuing in the snowbound area.
Two militants of the group are believed to be holed up at a hideout.
