Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and two other Trinamool Congress nominees won bypolls to three Assembly seats when the results were declared on October 3. On Monday, the Governor had suggested that he would decide on the date of swearing in of the MLAs once the Gazette notification was issued. On Tuesday, the ECI issued the gazette notification on the by-poll results.

Usually, the swearing in of MLAs is presided by the Speaker of the State Assembly, but on this occasion, the Governor has decided to administer oath to Ms. Banerjee and two other elected representatives. After being sworn in on Thursday Ms. Banerjee will become a member of the State Assembly. She had contested West Bengal Assembly polls from Nandigram and lost narrowly to the BJP nominee. Ms. Banerjee won by a margin of 58,832 votes at Bhabanipur.
