Thousands of employees of the Income Tax (IT) Department observed a nationwide strike on Thursday seeking redressal of service-related demands. Protesters blamed the lackadaisical attitude of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, which administes the department. The next course of action will be decided on Sunday. A memorandum was also sent to the Finance Ministry and CBDT.

“We have received no communication from the government or CBDT. We intend to take the agitation further,” said A K Kanojia, president of the Income Tax Employees Federation.
