Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party president Tirath Singh Rawat on Thursday said the Harish Rawat government was a bigger failure than the former Vijay Bahuguna government.
“There are multiple announcements [of schemes especially regarding rehabilitation and reconstruction in disaster affected areas] but no work can be seen on the ground. It seems all the announcements are mere stunts for the upcoming [Lok Sabha] polls,” Tirath Singh Rawat said.
“The situation in the disaster-hit areas is dismal. More than nine months have passed since the disaster occurred but the affected people do not have houses to live in,” he said.
The BJP leader said that Chief Minister’s visits to the disaster-hit areas would not serve any purpose unless the announcements made by the government were implemented.
He charged that the Congress government was responsible for the postponement of the panchayat polls which were to be held this month but under a Supreme Court ruling have been deferred till June this year.
The Chief Minister allocated portfolios to his Cabinet on Tuesday. The portfolios were allotted after more than a month since he took charge as the Chief Minister. The Congress sources here said the State Tourism Minister Amrita Rawat, and the State Finance Minister Indira Hriyadesh were unhappy over the allocation of portfolios.
Talking about the unresolved issues within the Congress over the portfolio allocation issue Mr. Tirath Singh Rawat said, “The dissension within the Congress Ministers affects the development works in the State.”
The BJP list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls from the State l would be finalised on March 8.
