Ganesan sworn in as Manipur Governor

Will address issues in consultation with people, he says

La. Ganesan from Tamil Nadu was sworn in as the 17 Governor of Manipur on Friday morning. President Ram Nath Kovid made the appointment on Sunday last. Previous Governor Najma Heptulla retired on August 20.

Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court P.V. Sanjay Kumar administered the oath of office to Mr. Ganesan at a simple function at the Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister N. Biren, several Ministers, high police, civil and paramilitary personnel were present. The number of invitees was slashed in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Ganesan said that in 50 years of his public service, he had come to know of the problems and issues people faced. “From today, I have a chance to study issues in Manipur. All issues will be addressed in consultation with people. I belong to their families and we are of the same families. I will discharge my duty with sincerity,” he added.
