Congress plans farmers’ march in Yavatmal on April 5

To begin from Yavatmal village where Modi organised chai pe charcha

Nagpur: The Congress party’s Yavatmal unit has organised a 90 km long padyatra from Dabhadi village to Pandhrakwada town in the district to highlight the problems faced by the farmers.

Dabhadi village came to prominence in 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi organized a chai pe charcha program in the village during the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.

The four-day-long long march will begin on April 5 and senior Congress leaders from Maharashtra and neighbouring states are expected to participate along with former BJP ally the Shetkari Swabhimani Sanghatana chief Raju Shetti.

The newly appointed Congress secretary in charge of Gujarat and Lok Sabha MP from neighbouring Hingoli constituency, Rajiv Satav, will inaugurate the march along with Mr. Shetti. on April 5.

“ In 2014, Mr. Modi had organised chai pe charcha and interacted with over 1,500 farmers across the country through video-conferencing. Family members of many farmers, who committed suicide, were invited for the programme where Mr. Modi projected himself as the saviour of farmers. Four years later, this government led by Mr. Modi has not taken a single decision for the welfare of the farmers. Instead, it has ruined the agriculture sector which resulted in an increase in the number of farmers committing suicide,” according to a statement released by the Congress.

The organisers had invited Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan to take part in it, however, he has not confirmed his participation.
