The BJP has lost moral authority to remain in power in Chhattisgarh, the Congress said on Sunday, a day after Maoists killed four CRPF soldiers in Bijapur district on Saturday.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the countdown for Chief Minister Raman Singh to step down had begun. “We do salute the courage and valour of our jawans. But the scared, cowardly, frustrated, clueless and directionless Raman Singh government in the State and the Modi dispensation at the Centre have no moral right to rule... They have left the reins of government to terrorist and Naxals,” he said. In return for the sacrifices of the security forces, the BJP government offered ‘jumla.’

From 2016 to 2017, the number of security men killed had risen from 106 to 130. The figures for 2018 were grimmer. “...Chief Minister Raman Singh was among the first to claim that demonetisation would wipe out Naxal funds... The truth is that after demonetisation, there has been 30 major Naxal attacks and 120 security men and 150 civilians have been killed,” he added.
Voting will be held in 18 constituencies on November 12 in the first phase of the Assembly elections in the State.
