CBI arrests five customs officers in graft case

They allegedly demanded ₹ 50 lakh from an importer to clear his consignment.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested five officials with the Mumbai Customs department along with one civilian in an alleged graft case.

According to CBI officials, the arrested accused have been identified as Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Meena, Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner Sudarshan Meena, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Yadav and Superintendent Manish Singh, while the civilian accused has been identified as Nilesh Singh.

“The accused officials demanded ₹ 50 lakh as a bribe in exchange for clearing a consignment, and the civilian accused facilitated the bribe demand. Searches are underway at the residences and offices of all the arrested accused. They are being produced in a special CBI court,” an officer said.
