BJP leader Gul Mohammad Mir shot dead in South Kashmir

Suspected militants shot dead a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader on Saturday evening in south Kashmir's Anantnag.

An official said Gul Mohammad Mir, 60, alias Attal was fired from a close range at Nowgam area of Verinag at around 10:00 p.m. “He was shifted to a hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries, inflicted by five bullets,” said the official.

Mr. Mir, who was BJP's vice district president of Anantnag district, was hit by bullets on chest and abdomen. He had unsuccessfully contested Assembly Elections for Dooru assembly segment in 2008 and 2014.
