Senior police officer Rajesh Sahni allegedly shot himself dead at his office here on Tuesday.

He was an Additional Superintendent of Police with the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad. Mr. Sahni “committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple at 12.45 p.m. in his office with an official weapon,” said ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar.

Though he was on leave till the first week of June, he landed at the ATS headquarters in Gomti Nagar. After some time, he summoned his driver and asked him to bring his service revolver, said DIG, Law and Order, Praveen Kumar.

The weapon has been sent for forensic investigation and a probe has been ordered, said Mr. Kumar.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Born in 1969 in Patna, Mr. Sahni was a 1992-batch Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer. He had an M.A in political science. He had joined the ATS in 2014.

DGP O.P. Singh said Mr. Sahni “was one of the most promising officers.”
