Assam to roll out health policy for poor

: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday announced that his government would soon roll out a comprehensive health policy encompassing all health related aspects and would adopt a holistic approach for making the State “healthy.”

“The affluent can avail the best of medical care and treatment. Our aim is to reach out to the poor and weaker sections of society,” he said at a function Sarusajai Stadium complex here in which he distributed appointment letters to 1,134 newly recruited doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians under National Health Mission, uniforms to 211 ASHA workers, and flagged off a fleet of 37 new ambulances under 102 Ambulance Services.

The Chief Minister said that his government has accorded priority to safe drinking water and sanitation to keep diseases at bay.

“We can keep many diseases at bay through cleanliness and hygiene. Our focus is on providing safe drinking water and sanitation facilities,” he added.Mr Gogoi said that Assam Government’s focus is on reducing the Infant Mortality and Maternal Mortality Rates.
