The Assam police have recovered a limited edition Hublot watch that belonged to football legend Diego Armando Maradona.

The police in eastern Assam’s Sivasagar district retrieved the watch from the house of one Wazid Hussain during an operation at 4 am on December 11.

Hussain was not at his home in Sivasagar town. The police caught him from his in-law’s house in the adjoining Charaideo district later.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, taking to Twitter, said the recovery of the “heritage” Hublot watch belonging to the late Maradona was an outcome of international cooperation between the Dubai police and the Assam police through a central Indian law enforcement agency.

“According to the information received from the Dubai police, Hussain used to work at the place Maradona used to stay in Dubai and had stolen a box containing many of the soccer great’s belongings,” Sivasagar’s Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan told  The Hindu

“The watch was among the footballer’s belongings Hussain had taken away before returning to India in August 2020,” he said.

Maradona, who managed two United Arab Emirates teams between 2013 and 2018, died on November 25, 2020.

“We are interrogating the man and hope to recover the other stolen items,” Mr Roushan said.

Maradona played in four FIFA World Cups, including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he captained Argentina and led them to victory over West Germany in the final.
