The Aligarh Muslim University has suspended classes in its women's college for five days after the death of a female student of suspected swine flu.
The students of the university panicked after Rushda Pervez, a student of graduation final year died on her way to a Delhi hospital on Friday, in a suspected case of swine flu.
All the inmates of Abdullah Hall hostel where the students of AMU women's college stay, who showed symptoms of swine flu --cough and throat complications -- have been put under strict medical watch. According to university spokesperson Rahat Abrar, the students had been isolated only as a precautionary measure.
“The university has found only one case of suspected swine flu. We have put in place all the precautionary measure,” he said.
“A few students of Abdullah Hall with symptoms of swine flue have been put in isolation under strict medical vigil only as a precautionary measure. So there is no need to panic,” added the AMU spokesperson.
The university officials said that the only victim of suspected swine flu might have been infected during her college trip to Bengaluru and Ooty. The rest of the persons who were part of the tour have also slated for a check up. “All students who have been segregated will be released once their check up is done. We are trying our best to restore confidence and not allow rumours on the campus,” added Mr. Abrar.
