Shiromani Akali Dal leaders on Monday staged a protest against the Congress government near Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s residence here for allegedly “distorting” history related to the Sikh faith and Sikh gurus by misrepresenting facts through history books in Punjab School Education Board schools.

SAD leaders, including party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, were detained after they clashed with the police while trying to break through barricades outside the Chief Minister's residence. Later, they were released.

Mr. Badal said Akali Dal leaders and workers had come to register their protest against denigration of “Guru Sahiban” in history books under the Congress regime.
