Akali Dal MP Ghubaya quits party

Sher Singh Ghubaya, the two-time Member of Parliament from Ferozepur, on Monday resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal even as the party said he has been expelled for indulging in “anti-party activities”.

Mr. Ghubaya has been expelled from the primary membership of the party for anti-party activities, the SAD said in a statement.

The Ferozepur MP, however, told reporters that he had sent his resignation to party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and the party's decision to expel him was an afterthought.

“I have resigned from the Akali Dal as I have been sidelined within the party. The party’s image has taken a beating because of party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal,” he said.
