Popular Singer and Bharatiya Janata Party MP from West Bengal’s Asansol seat Babul Supriyo is likely to be inducted in Union Council of Ministers in the expansion of the Narendra Modi Cabinet on Sunday.

When contacted by The Hindu the MP’s personal assistant said that Mr. Supriyo, who is Mumbai, will be flying to New Delhi for “official reasons”. Though the MP remained non-committal on the issue, sources in the BJP said that Mr. Supriyo is all set become a Minister.

He will be the first Minster from West Bengal in the National Democratic Alliance government. Asked to comment on the issue, State BJP president Rahul Sinha said, “It can safely be assumed that Babul Supriyo will be a Minister at the Centre”.

“He will meet the Prime Minister tomorrow and his portfolio would be announced then. (On Friday) I was informed about the development by the party leadership. The Prime Minister had also called (up) Babul Supriyo,” Mr. Sinha said.

He also added that Mr. Supriyo is also in touch with him on the developments. Mr. Sinha, however refused to answer whether he will indicted as a Minister of State or a Cabinet Minister.

Mr. Supriyo, a first time MP, is one of two BJP members from West Bengal, the other being Surinder Singh Ahluwalia from Darjeeling Lok sabha seat.

The Prime Minister’s affection for Mr. Supriyo was evident during the run up to elections itself.

“I want Babul in Parliament… I am giving you my word that I will make this youth a hero of the country,” Mr. Modi had said, while campaigning at Asansol during the Lok Sabha polls.
