Tripura tops in the country in blood donation

Tripura topped the list of donating blood voluntarily in the country last year, Project Director of Tripura Blood Transfusion Society Dr. Jotirmoy Das said on Monday.

“When the percentage of blood collection through voluntary blood donation camps in the country was only 55 per cent last year (2009), in Tripura it was 95.3 per cent, Mr. Das said.

According to NACO only five States have the distinction of total collection being above 80 per cent as against a national average of 55 to 60 per cent - Tripura (95.3 per cent), Tamil Nadu (91.9 per cent), West Bengal (85.1 per cent), Punjab (84.9 per cent) and Maharashtra (84.8 per cent).
