The Rajasthan State Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a proposal for giving five promotions to forest offices in the service of the State government, giving them greater opportunities for career growth. The forest officers were earlier getting only two promotions as a right during the entire span of their service.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore told reporters here after the Cabinet meeting that the State government would amend the Rajasthan Forest Service Act, 1962, for the purpose. There will be five salary scales in the service, including senior scale, selection scale, super-time scale and higher super-time scale.

Mr. Rathore said the decision had met the long-pending demand of forest officers seeking more promotion opportunities. The Forest Department was also asked to plant 16 lakh trees across the State this year.

Among other decisions taken in the Cabinet meeting, a proposal for formulation of a sewerage water management policy was approved and another proposal for direct recruitment to the posts of librarians and physical training instructors in the government colleges was given the green signal.

Mr. Rathore said each town in the State would be connected to the sewerage system in a phased manner during the next five years and the use of treated water would be promoted. In another decision, the district collectors were empowered to sell the ‘nazul’ land – the State land administered by local bodies – valued at Rs.1 crore against the provision of Rs.10 lakh earlier.
