PIL plea against DGP appointment dismissed

The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation petition challenging the appointment of IPS officer D. Sivanandan as Maharashtra's Director-General of Police.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice S.C. Dharmadhikari said the matter related to the service rules for IPS officers, so a PIL petition could not be entertained.

Petitioner R.R. Tripathi, a lawyer himself, alleged that two senior officers — Hasan Gafoor and P.P. Shrivastav — were sidelined when Mr. Sivanandan was appointed to the post in May.
